Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett
presented by Theatre
West Van - North Shore Zone FestivalArthur
Wicksteed, a middle-aged GP, has rather lively extra-marital interests. His neglected and
frustrated wife, Muriel, craves attention - particularly to her bust. Wicksteed's
flat-chested sister Constance, who is being ardently pursued by her frustrated admirer
Canon Throbbing, yearns for just one thing in life - a mountainous frontage. 'He whose
lust lasts, lasts longest' is the achingly neat motto of Alan Bennett's wickedly funny
farce. Throughout this joyous romp we are reminded that life is short and that we should
(quite literally) grasp the objects of our lust with both hands. Death will have the body
in the end, Bennett says, so you might as well sow your oats while you can. And they do -
or at least they try! |
