Garry
Davey - Mainstage Adjudicator
Garry is the former Artistic Director of the William Davis Centre for Actors' Study in
Vancouver. Now living on Gabriola Island with his actor wife, Robin Kelley, he had been
working mainly as an actor again, including appearing in TheatreOne's world premiere
production of Marty Chan's Best Left Buried in March 2003 and Chemainus Theatre's
production of the revised The Dunsmuirs: Alone at the Edge. Garry also acts frequently in
television. He directed a production of Marion Bridge by Daniel MacIvor at the Theatre
Centre on Gabriola, as well as Albee's Three Tall Women for Nanaimo's Western Edge
Theatre, part of the company's premiere season. This past year, Garry was appointed as
Artistic Director for TheatreOne here in Nanaimo. His first season included directing both
The Drawer Boy and Shirley Valentine for presentation at the Port Theatre, home to
Mainstage 2005.
For Theatre BC, Garry has served as a workshop instructor, adjudicator for several Zone
Festivals, Scene Development Instructor, Workshop Plays Instructor at Mainstage 2002 &
2003, Playwriting Competition Juror and dramaturge at Theatre BC's New Play Festival 2004
in Kamloops. We are very pleased to have Garry leading the learning process this summer as
Festival Adjudicator for Mainstage 2005. |

Kathryn
Shaw (Workshop
Play #1) is the Artistic Director of Studio 58, a position she has held since 1985.
She received her B.A. in Dramatic Art from Whitman College and an M.F.A in acting from New
York's Columbia University School of Arts. Ms. Shaw has directed for theatre companies
across Canada, including the Vancouver Playhouse, the Belfry Theatre in Victoria, Richmond
Gateway Theatre, the New Bastion Theatre and Green Thumb Theatre. She has taught acting
for professional and community groups in British Columbia, Winnipeg and Halifax. She is
also a guest instructor at the National Theatre School in Montreal. Known primarily as a
director and teacher, Ms. Shaw recently returned to the stage in the Angry Actors'
sell-out production of Famous Dead Stories We Just Made Up (which she co-wrote). Last
year, Kathryn enjoyed a second turn as Theatre BC's Mainstage Adjudicator, a role she also
performed at Mainstage '90 in Chilliwack. Theatre BC is pleased to have Kathryn back once
again this year to participate in the Workshop Plays Series

Russell Kilde (Workshop Play #2) is a director, actor, dancer and
choreographer. He received his BA in Art History and Theatre from UBC and taught acting
and movement at Ryerson Theatre School, York U. and U.of Alberta. Acting, directing and
choreography stops include the Citadel Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, Belfry Theatre and
Chemainus Theatre.

Eliza Gardiner
(Youth Workshop Play)- Eliza has an M.A.
in Drama from the U of Toronto, as well as a B.F.A. in Film from York University. She has
been instructing and directing Young People's theatre through her company, Earth Muffin
Productions, for nine years. Eliza has written and designed original plays, adaptations of
classics and musicals. Eliza recently joined the faculty of the Malaspina University
Theatre Dept., where she teaches Theatre History. This past winter she directed a very
successful production of The Vagina Monologues at Malaspina University.

Ross
Desprez (Workshop Play #3) is a
freelance actor, director, writer from Victoria. He holds both a BFA & MFA in Theatre
(graduate of Malaspina U-C & UVIC). His play, The Ballad of Jim Payne, recently
enjoyed a successful run at The Belfry Theatre in Victoria. Ross currently teaches acting
at Malaspina University Theatre Department in Nanaimo, where he directed a student
production of A Midsummer Night's Dream last Fall. For Theatre BC, Ross has previously
served as a Canadian National Playwriting Competition Juror and New Play Festival
dramaturge (twice) in Kamloops, as well as a Workshop Play Instructor previously at
Mainstage 2002 in Nanaimo. |
