Mainstage 2006 Opens Admin Office & Seeks Volunteers
MAPLE RIDGE B.C.: The Mainstage 2006
Planning Committee recently opened the festival office in preparation for the biggest
multi-day festival ever held in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The office will provide a
central hub for administration activities and volunteer recruitment and training.
Mainstage is overseen by Theatre BC, the
provincial organization that manages the annual theatre festival for B.C. community
theatre groups. The nine-day festival includes nightly performances that represent the
best in community theatre from across the province. Professionally adjudicated, the
festival includes plays, workshops, classes and special events capped off by an awards
banquet.
Mainstage 2006 is being organized by a
local committee with representatives from throughout the Fraser Valley and has received
strong community support. Marv Jones Honda is the lead corporate sponsor and Shaw TV is
providing major media sponsorship. The Districts of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are
providing grants, office space and equipment, and staff support. Other sponsors include
Starbucks, NISA and a variety of individual business and personal donors.
The committee is actively seeking
volunteers to assist with festival preparation and logistics. This is a major
undertaking for our communities, said Vicki McLeod, Co-chair of the 2006 organizing
committee. We will need dozens of volunteers for everything from hospitality to
office administration to transportation to registration. This is a great opportunity to be
involved and learn more about Mainstage and community theatre.
Mainstage volunteers will receive
training, as well as free passes to Mainstage shows and activities. Volunteers are
an integral part of our success and we are more than happy to provide incentives for
volunteering, said McLeod. Volunteers are required to make a minimum time
commitment, participate in training sessions and wear identification and Mainstage
volunteer t-shirts while on shift.
The Mainstage 2006 office is located at
120 - 22470 Dewdney Trunk Road (next to the library) and will be staffed on a part-time
basis throughout May and the first part of June. A full-time Festival Coordinator will
start on June 15 and the office will be open full-time at that time.
Those interested in volunteering can
contact the Mainstage 2006 Volunteer Coordinator, Joy-Ann Lee at 604.941.5699. For general
