July
11, 1999 MAINSTAGE '99 a complete SUCCESS!!
MAINSTAGE '99 came to a close last night (early this
morning, rather!) with the Final Night Party at The Coast Bastion Hotel. Smiles were on
every face following a Festival week that Theatre BC and Host Club, Nanaimo Theatre Group,
can surely be very proud of. Shouts of "bring her back next year!" were heard
from the audience as Mainstage Adjudicator, Glynis Leyshon, made her closing remarks. For
a complete list of the award-winners, check out the MAINSTAGE '99
Results Page.
MAINSTAGE '99 was an organizational, financial and artistic success as countless volunteers and Project staff worked many hours to make this an enjoyable experience for participants and patrons alike. In perhaps a tribute to the strong organization of this year's Festival, Host Organizing Committee Chair, Michael Patton, was elected to the Theatre BC Executive Committee as a Vice President at the General Meeting on Saturday (July 10) afternoon and was immediately appointed as Festivals Committee Chair by incoming President, Carroll Lefebvre.
The new Executive Committee is as follows:
Carroll Lefebvre, Delta (VAZ), President
Fran Gebhard, Kelowna (OKZ) (now Vancouver), Vice President, Programs & Services
Mike Patton, Nanaimo (NIZ),Vice President, Festivals
Ken Hutchinson, Whitehorse (YKZ), Vice President, Membership & Communications
Anne Marsh, North Vancouver (NSZ), Recording Secretary
Pennie Liebel, Campbell River (NIZ), Treasurer
Marianne Weston, Terrace (SKZ), Past President
As the final act at the Awards Ceremony, Chair, Mike Patton, passed the MAINSTAGE banner to the next Hosts. Mainstage 2000 Co-Chair, Jack MacDonald accepted the banner on behalf of Sidekick Players Club and invited everyone to Ladner and the Genesis Theatre next July 1-8.

Registrations for MAINSTAGE '99 have already topped
the 200 mark with over two weeks to go to 'Opening Day'. The percentage of eight-day

as well. Registration numbers for the 'Special Workshops' series are also extremely good
with close to 150 spots filled for these courses.
One note for participants, there has been a venue change: the 'Green Room' will now be located in the Best Western Dorchester Hotel, right across Bastion Street from The Port Theatre and Coast Bastion Hotel.

The productions for the Scene Development Series at
MAINSTAGE '99 have been finalized. Four productions will take part, each working with a
professional director for fifteen hours of rehearsal-style workshopping. For details on
