The Affections of May by Norm Foster

presented by Nanaimo Theatre Group

Two Act Comedy - 1 hr., 30 min.   There will be one intermission.

Grogan’s Cove somewhere in Canada , 1990 – A Bed and Breakfast. "A Delightful Romantic Comedy". From a confused and deserted wife, May becomes a happy and confident woman – due in no small measure to the men she encounters on the way.

Black Comedy by Peter Schaffer

presented by Yellow Point Drama Group, Nanaimo

Comedy - 1 hr.,30 min         There will be one intermission

Victoria, B.C. 1966  A farce wherein during a blackout the actors respond to light as dark and visa versa.

Monday, May 19th

My Beau by Edmond Alcid

presented by E.C.H.O.Players, Qualicum Beach

Two Act Drama - 1 hr.,30 min.   There will be one intermission.

Present day. Two sisters in a seniors residence re-live their youthful competition for their ‘Beau’ Edmond. The spirit of the departed Edmond returns to provide the audience with HIS viewpoint!

Tuesday, May 20th

Shirley Valentine  by Willy Russell

 presented by Cortes Theatre, Cortes Island

Two Act Comedy/Drama - 2 hrs.    There will be one intermission.

Act 1 England – the kitchen of a semi-detached house.
Act 2 A Greek Island
Her hope and self – confidence badly shattered by school, marriage and life, the former Shirley Valentine is reduced to talking to the kitchen wall while preparing her husbands evening meal. As she sips a glass of wine she dreams of drinking wine in a country where the grape is grown. When her feminist friend offers her a holiday in Greece, she seizes the opportunity and encounters a totally different life style.

The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman & members of Tectonic Theatre Project

Docudrama - 3 hrs.     There will be two intermissions.

Laramie, Wyoming .  Brutal killing of Matthew Shepard. (Hate Crime) Effects of the court case on the town.
Coarse language and use of flash cameras on stage.

Thursday, May 22nd

The Pinchpenny Phantom of the Opera by Dave Resiser & Jack Sharkey

presented by Dori McGarrigle's Musical Theatre, Parksville

Musical Comedy - 2 hrs.      There will be one intermission.

The late 1800’s.  The dressing room, office and stage of an opera house. Gaston, the proprietor of a run down opera house that still bears signs of faded elegance, struggles to keep the operas going with a chorus of two and only one guest soprano per opera.

Friday, May 23rd

It Runs in the Family by Ray Cooney

presented by Rivercity Players, Campbell River

British Farce -
2 hrs.   There will be one intermission

St. Andrews Hospital, London, England – present day. In this rollicking British farce, Dr. David Mortimore’s past catches up to him on the brink of a career – making lecture. Can he keep them all apart: the wife, the former fling, the director of the hospital, the police?

The Smell of the Kill by Michele Lowe

presented by Theatre Now!, Powell River

Black Comedy  - 1 hr., 20 min.    No intermission

Present day, somewhere in the USA.Nicky, Debra and Molly have tolerated each other during once a month dinners for years. For the first time they admit their marriages are on the brink of disaster. The men mistakenly lock themselves in the meat locker. Should they leave them in?

Zone Festivals are held in each of Theatre BC’s Zones throughout the spring, leading to the annual provincial MAINSTAGE theatre festival. Productions from each Zone Festival will participate as a "Best Production", "Workshop Play" or "Scene Development" at Theatre BC's Mainstage 2003 in Penticton/Summerland, B.C., July 4-12th/03.
