Line-up of Plays

Wednesday, May 14 - 8:00 pm The Drawer Boy by Micheal Healey

presented by  Stage North Theatre Society,
Directed by Dave Eaton

It's 1972, and a self-absorbed young Toronto actor arrives on a small farm to do hands-on research for an upcoming role in a play about country life. He is sent to live with two middle-aged farmers and unwittingly stumbles upon the truth about their past and as a result, their lives are forever altered when art attempts to imitate life and the line between truth and fiction is crossed. What begins as an amusing portrayal of rural and urban culture-clash, slowly peels away layers of forgotten truths and lies, exposing hidden secrets of love and tragedy.(Full length)

Thursday, May 15  - 8:00 pm Becausehecan by Arthur Kopit

presented by Stage North Theatre Society,
directed by Oliver Hachmeister

An urban couple leading successful, busy lives have their world systematically unravelled by a hacker who takes control of the computer records of their lives from bank accounts to legal files, robbing them of their identities, assuming control of their wealth, creating evidence of criminal activities and triggering an FBI investigation. (1 hr.15min.)

Friday, May 16  - 8:00 pm Quartet for Three Actors by Rex Deverell

presented by Dodge City  Players

Three actors find themselves on an empty stage unable to leave until they perform the play they've been given. An examination of themselves as artists and as human beings is the result. (Full length)

Saturday, May 17  - 7:00 pm The Melancholy King by Cynthia Livingstone

presented by Fort St. John Players ,
directed by Cynthia Livingstone

The Melancholy King is a lark about two cheeky knights, Sirs Frick & Frack, who must find a girlfriend for their Melancholy King (the biggest momma's boy ever) --or it is off with their heads. A romp thru medieval Fort St. John! (35 min.)

Saturday, May 17  - 8:30 pm Hats off to Chetwynd by Leo Sabulsky

presented by Chetwynd Actors Guild,
directed by Cathy Norris

"Hats off to Chetwynd" was written originally for a celebration party to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Chetwynd. People in small towns often did many jobs and characters  are loosely based on real people who did wear many "hats". Characters use wit, sarcasm and personal testimony to tell the story of small town survival, disaster, loneliness and death along with feelings of survival and pride in friendships.  Each member of the audience is invited to compare the characters portrayed in this play to characters in their own hometown. Northern residents may recognize common threads of
history - these are loneliness, the threat of great economic boom and a fierce pride in community! (40 min.)

Followed by Awards Presentation
