                       Michael Irwin is an actor and theatre technician who holds a Masters in Directing from the University of BC.  He has acted for theatre and film and directed for numerous CBC Radio and TV productions. Michael has served as Theatre Technical Director for Simon Fraser Univ. and Kelowna Community Theatre, and as Theatre Technician for UBC and Okanagan Univ.-College in Kelowna, where he is still employed. He also freelances as a Technical Director (lighting and sound design).

JonesDavidCsm.jpg (5490 bytes) David C. Jones:
                       David C. Jones is executive director of DCJ Productions, providing a variety of production services to both live and filmed projects. He has written, produced, directed and acted in hundreds of shows. His reputation having him travel and work in such exotic locations as Bosnia, Israel, Egypt, Greenland and Las Vegas. David has written tradeshows, radio commercials, corporate videos and live theater pieces.
He currently serves on several boards including The West Coast Advisory Board for Canadian Actor's Equity and Theatre Terrific, a company that works with physically and mentally challenged people. A popular performer, and emcee David has been called the "one of the funniest minds in Vancouver" by the Vancouver Sun.
He also voluntarily produces and directs Sketch In Time, an annual comedy benefit that raises money for the ALS Society of BC.
He has also performed for such folks as Martha Stewart, Meat Loaf, Bill Gates and ex-B.C. Premiers Mike Harcourt and Bill VanderZalm.
David was honored with the Business in Vancouver "Top 40 under 40 Award" and was awarded The Georgia Straight Best In Vancouver 2004 Best Comedian award.

: David has taught Improve Your Improv , You've Got Character and Making It Work at numerous Mainstage and Backstage workshops since 1996.

         As Artistic Director and President of United Players, Andrée has been a part of live theatre in the lower mainland as producer, director and actress for over 30 years. In her 20+ years as Artistic Director of United Players, she has become known for her artistic abilities, her courage, tenacity and integrity. She is highly respected in the Arts community and has given United Players the reputation of a unique semi-professional theatre offering high-standard live theatre of critically acclaimed playwrights. Her philosophy of inclusion and encouragement has proved invaluable to the careers of many aspiring artists.

         Don has taught Theatre in School District 23 for over 34 years. In 1994 he was the recipient of a National Award for Leadership in Education recognizing his contribution to the development of the Theatre Program and Performing Arts Centre at Kelowna Secondary School. He has directed countless plays and musicals in the school and in the community, and developed a reputation for producing challenging and thought provoking productions. He has received many awards at Zone and Provincial Festivals for his work with Theatre Kelowna Society and New Company Theatre Society.
He is recognized nationally and internationally as an outstanding workshop leader in drama education. In the last few years he has created original productions that tackle the issues of racism, bullying, and intolerance in the schools. Some acclaimed productions include Oedipus (New Company Theatre Society) Best Ensemble Theatre B.C. Provincial Festival 1997, Unity (1918), winner of Theatre BC’s 2004 Provincial Drama Festival, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and The Beard of Avon (2005 winner of Best Ensemble at the OZONE Drama Festival) Don Keith also directed Seussical for both Theatre Kelowna Society and Sunshine Theatre Company, Anne of Green Gables and The Memory of Water. Judged the best play at the 2007 Okanagan Zone Drama Festival, The Memory of Water earned six other awards including Best Director. He was awarded Best Set Design at The 2007 Provincial Drama Festival for the same play.
Don Keith was the first Education Coordinator at The Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna, and has just moved to Salt Spring Island to pursue other creative interests.
RobinKelley.jpg (15807 bytes) Robin Kelley :
         A Graduate of Studio 58, Robin has been assisting new and not-so-new actors to better understand their craft for 20(+/-) years. Besides being an actor in film, TV and on stage, Robin also directs, most recently directing and dramaturging a brand new play Cat Tales by Nanaimo playwright Cindy Shantz. She recently directed Classical Twist, a classical duet performance revue with six piece orchestra for "The Dancing Man" Festival on Gabriola Island where she lives.

Theatre BC: Robin has led acting workshops at Mainstage 2002 & 2005 in Nanaimo, and 2003 in Penticton. She has also facilitated Regional Instructor Tours to other zones in the province.

Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh is a graduate from UBC, with a BFA in Theatre tech and Design specializing in
costume design. She also has a diploma in Fashion Design from John Casablanca’s’ school of fashion.
Some of her previous shows include: Trigger, The League of Nathans, The Family Way, and Hosanna for
Touchstone Theatre; Death on The Nile, Barefoot In the Park, and Puss in Boots (pantomime) for
Raymond Burr Theatre; Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun for Western Canada Theatre; As You Like It for
Presentation House; and Andromache for Jericho Arts Centre.

Theatre BC: Farnaz led a workshop in Costume History & Design at Mainstage 2004 in Kamloops.

         Russell is a director, instructor, actor, dancer and choreographer. He received his BA in Art History and Theatre from UBC and taught acting and movement at Ryerson Theatre School, York U. and U.of Alberta. Acting, directing and choreography stops include the Citadel Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, Belfry Theatre and Chemainus Theatre, as well as turns in New York, Quebec, Russia, France, and the UK.
        
Theatre BC:  Russell served as Workshop Play Instructor at Mainstage Festival 2005 in Nanaimo.

                       Martin began his professional career in 1967 as an Assistant Director at England's famed Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Two years later, he returned to Canada as Assistant Director at the Stratford Festival. He was Artistic Director of Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille and from 1972 to 1979, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Toronto Free Theatre. In 1980, Martin joined the CBC as a Drama Producer and Director. From 1985 to 1991, Martin served as Artistic Director and Executive Producer at Theatre Calgary and directed a number of productions. His favorites included Joan MacLeod's “Toronto Mississippi”, Anton Chekov's “Uncle Vanya,” Sheldon Rosen's “Souvenirs”, and his own adaptation of Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol”, which is now a Christmas tradition in Calgary. In 1994, Martin settled in Vancouver as a freelance writer and director and has focussed his attention on radio and television. His television production of Joan MacLeod's “Amigo's Blue Guitar” aired on Bravo! “Becker", a mystery series he created for CBC, is now available on audio cassettes. He has written for “Jake and the Kid” and “The Hardy Boys”. He divides his life between Vancouver, where he is now Executive Director and Literary Manager for Playwrights’ Theatre Centre, and Memorial University of Newfoundland (Grenfell College), where he teaches and directs on a regular basis.

: Martin has adjudicated the provincial MAINSTAGE Festival twice, in 1991 (Nelson), and 1994, (Cranbrook), served as a Zone Festival adjudicator for several Zones, as a dramaturge at the New Play Workshops and as one of three jurors for Theatre BC's 9th Annual Canadian National Playwriting Competition (1997). He also led a workshop in Playwriting at Backstage 2001.

Upon her return from Whitehorse, where she directed a workshop of Still Life With Cello, a new interdisciplinary collective creation, Stephanie directed two shows for Studio 58 (Flowers and Babies, the premiere production of Martin Kinch's Public Scenes/Private Acts at Capilano College and was the first resident director and associate dramaturge at Playwrights’ Theatre Centre.  While at PTC, Stephane workshopped and developed new Canadian plays including The Shooting Stage for the New Play Festival.  Prior to PTC, she was the associate artistic director at Touchstone Theatre for three seasons.  She received the Larry Cub Award and the Ray Michal Award for her direction of The Orphan Muses and a Jessie nomination for outstanding direction of Sled with co-director Roy Surette.  Other highlights include the critically acclaimed production of Happy Days at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre and the Jessie nominated Fringe production of Cirque Poule.  Stephane is a graduate of Studio 58's acting program, holds an MFA in directing from York University and attended the Master class for Directors at the World Stage Festival.

Theatre BC: Stephane conducted a workshop on Body Speak at Backstage 2000.

Karin has appeared in many films including Scooby-Doo 2, Monster Unleashed (2004), Double Double Toil and Trouble (1993) and Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (2002). In theatre she was nominated for "Outstanding performance by an actress in a leading role" at the 16th Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards1998, for The Threepenny Opera at the Arts Club Theatre, and in 2002 for Optiate Karim at Neworld Theatre. She also won the " Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting role" award in 2000 for Sweeney Todd at the Arts Club.

For Theatre BC: Karin gave a workshop in Musical Theatre for the Okanagan Zone.

John Krich is actor, director and teacher. Since 1968 he has been with The University of Victoria Department of Theatre where he teaches Acting and Directing. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, John has worked with many theatres across North America. He is a popular performer in Victoria, working not only at University Victoria, but at the Belfry Theatre, the Bastion Theatre, the Electric Circus Co. ass well as several appearances at the Victoria Fringe Festival. He recently appeared in Mass Appeal at the Chemainus Theatre Co. and in Ethan Claymore at the Belfry Theatre. John won a price Lifetime Achievement Award at the Spotlight Awards.

For many years John has been active with Theatre BC. He has adjudicated many zone festivals and conducted numerous workshops throughout British Columbia. In 1990 he was awarded Theatre BC’s Eric Hamber Award in recognition of his contribution to community theatre in the province.

Jacques Lalonde

Jacques is an award-winning actor, director, and playwright who has appeared in over 50 films, television shows, and plays. He has performed at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, the Children’s Festival, and Illuminares. He also wrote the hits, Saucy Bits, Nuckleheard Fever, and A Closer Walk with Jean Chétien.

Theatre BC: Jacques led a workshop entitled: Laugh Your Head Off!!! at Backstage Weekend 2002.

Burton has worked in the professional theatre, in both North America and Europe, for over forty years, mainly as a Producer, Artistic Director and Administrator. He trained at the famed Central School of Speech and Drama and had ten years experience in the British theatre working with such companies as the Old Vic, the Royal Court and the New Shakespeare Company. He came to North America to work with Les Grands Ballet at Expo '67. In Canada, Burton was the founder of six professional theatre companies, including Magnus Theatre (Thunder Bay), Union Theatre Waterloo and the Lakeshore Summer Festival. He has also served as Artistic Director for many companies, incl. the Showboat Festival Theatre (Port Colborne,Ont.)and the Marlowe Theatre (Canterbury, UK). Producing credits include Sheherazade for Canadian Stage (Toronto) and The Witch of Edmonton for Equity Showcase, which the Toronto media voted one of the ten best productions of 1993. He now lives on Vancouver Island where he serves as Artistic Director for TheatreOne in Nanaimo.

Theatre BC: Burton served as juror for the18th (2006) and 16th (2004) Annual Canadian National Playwriting Competitions.

John Lazarus John Lazarus:

        John has just returned to the west coast after a six-year stint as Associate Professor, Drama Department at Queen's University, Kingston, Ont. Prior to that, he had been a part-time instructor at Studio 58 1991-2000, teaching courses in Playwriting and in Solo Show (a course in which each student creates, develops and performs an original one-man or one-woman play). Studio 58 has produced his plays Babel Rap, Dreaming and Dueling, Village of Idiots, and Hotel Paradiso. Among his many other plays are Rough Magic, Meltdown, The Late Blumer, Homework & Curtains, The Trials of Eddy Haymour, The Nightingale, and his own acclaimed solo show, Medea's Disgust. His children's plays are produced worldwide. He also writes for film and television. He has served as adjudicator, juror, dramaturge, script editor, theatre reviewer, lecturor and instructor all across Canada.
He is a member of the
Tarragon Playwrights Unit, the Writers Guild of Canada, the Playwrights Theatre Centre, Praxis Film Development Centre and is the Ontario Representative of the Playwrights Guild of Canada. John is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.

Theatre BC: John gave an Advanced Playwriting Workshop for Backstage '98.

            S.G. Lee is an Artistic Director of Vancouver's Silk Purse Productions, where she has directed comedy hits ranging from Thomas Middleton's Jacobean farce, A Chaste Maid in Cheapside, to Theresa Rebeck's contemporary American retelling of Pygmalion, Spike Heels. She is also Artistic Producer at the William Davis Centre for Actors' Study, where she teaches scene study, acting for comedy and improvisation, as well as directing students in their graduating productions. Lee is known to audiences around BC and the Yukon as the writer of book and lyrics for the hilarious musical, Larger Than Life, produced and toured by Western Canada Theatre.

Theatre BC: She instructed a Special Course entitled: "But Am I Funny? Acting For Comedy" at Mainstage 2004 in Kamloops.

           Gabrielle is a cultural worker, arts administrator, festival producer, teacher, adjudicator, broadcast & theatre artist and consultant with a vast understanding of performing arts, community development and administration. She has worked in 6 Canadian provinces in most aspects of the arts, cultural industries, film and teaching and has produced over 30 Canadian arts festivals, including the BC Festival of the Arts from 1990 -2003.

            Kait Light has more than ten years in the television industry. She's the former Nanaimo correspondent for arts and entertainment for Go! Magazine on CH Television and currently hosts and co-produces ArtsNow on The Daily on Shaw TV, Channel 4. She is also a columnist and lifestyles feature writer with the Nanaimo Daily News & Harbour City Star. Kait works closely with many arts groups in Nanaimo and worked as publicist and marketing director for TheatreOne, Vancouver Island Children's Festival and the Crimson Coast Dance Society.

Theatre BC: Kait has instructed special courses in Publicity & Marketing at Mainstage 2005 and 2002  in Nanaimo.

             Gordon is a playwright, director, teacher and  author. He holds a MA in Theatre from UBC and has been teaching grades K-12 for 27 years, including 5 years of High School Drama. He has served as technical director at the New Play Centre, as theatre technician at the Frederick Wood Theatre at UBC, and stage hand, carpenter, propsman, special effects and set painter at CBC TV studio. He was Technical Director for the Prince George Children's Festival for 2 years and has been a Speech Arts Festival Adjudicator for 15 years all over the Central Interior of the province. He heads the professional entertainment troupe, The Fort George Follies ,and is currently Asst. Director and Youth Liaison for the Assoc. for the Preservation of Vaudeville.

      John Lowe has 20 years experience as a professional actor and director from across Canada and continues to work in film, television and theatre. Recent theatre credits include Measure for Measure at the Citadel Theatre, For The Pleasure of Seeing Her Again and The Drawer Boy for Kelowna's Sunshine Theatre and Dear Santa and Over the River and Through the Woods for Western Canada Theatre and The Gateway.
John has been seen in many feature films and TV movies including The Butterfly Effect and lead roles in Disney's The Ultimate Christmas Present and Trapped for the USA Network. He was a recurring character in the CBC TV series Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy and has made guest appearances on TV shows such as Millennium, X-Files, First Wave, The Immortal, Beggars and Choosers, The New Addams Family, Cold Squad and others.
John has taught acting through professional and community theatre programs since 1989.  He was artistic director of St. Albert Children's Theatre and has produced and acted in many independent theatre projects. John was producer, writer and director of the award-winning short film, Windows of White. He is developing the feature films Gutterball and Art School Warrior.

Allan holds a BA (Theatre and English), BEd (British Columbia), Certificate in Arts Administration (Harvard). Allan has taught at Douglas College since 1994. After leaving UBC Allan worked as a professional actor in Vancouver and on tour throughout BC and the rest of Canada. He was a writer for network television and has written documentaries, TV dramas and sketch comedies, and a feature film. In 1974 he co-founded Northern Light Theatre in Edmonton and guided that company through the first eight years which included the establishment of a Playwright's Workshop and two seasons of Shakespeare in a Tent. Allan was General Manager of Theatre Lennoxville in Quebec before returning to Vancouver to open an acting school; the Arts Club Drama Centre. Allan has worked extensively in film and television with credits in feature films, TV Movies of the Week, episodic TV, voice-overs and commercials. Allan has directed over a dozen productions at Douglas College including Frankenstein, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Our Country's Good, Mariner, Italian-American Reconciliation, Love's Fire, and The Good Woman of Setzuan. Recent film and television projects include feature film Rogue and Rat Race, and episodes of Stargate SG1, Cold Squad,, Mysterious Ways and Poltergeist.
