Wanted

Dear United Players supporters,

We are in search of books (books you don't want) to adorn the set of our exciting upcoming production The Breath of Life. Opening April 2nd, this engaging play, written by David Hare and directed by veteran United Player's Director Adam Henderson, promises to be a provocative and insightful production!

Our designer has created a beautiful and elaborate set for this play. To complete it we need an impressive array of preferably hardcover, non-fiction, or academic, books.  In fact, we need about 500 of them!  Our problem is that these books are likely to be damaged during the course of the play, so they won't be in any condition to return to their owners.  They will, however, be responsibly recycled following the production.

So we are appealing to you, our supporters, for help.  Do you have any books that you no longer want, that are taking up too much room in your library or are moldering in your basement? We want your books!  We can pick your books up, but would very much appreciate drop-offs.

Please let us know by e-mailing jerichoartscentre@gmail.com as soon as possible.

As always, we thank you so much for your support!

Looking for donations

Are you upgrading or renovating your theatre? Do you have materials or equipment (curtains, lights, etc) that you no longer need and would like to get rid of? Want to donate to a worthy cause?

The Centre of Integration for African Immigrants (CIAI) would be very grateful to receive your donations for our new event hall. CIAI is a non-profit organisation formed to bridge the gap between African and Caribbean communities and Canadian society by providing education, social opportunities, job readiness training and other services to low income visible minority immigrants and refugees. We have recently moved to a new facility at 811 Carnarvon Street in New Westminster and are currently in the process of creating a performance space.

If you would like to donate any materials that would otherwise be thrown away, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Jenny Francis at 604 759 0240 or jenny@ciia-ciai.com. Thank you!!

Program Announcement

Douglas College Stagecraft & Event Technology program announces its new work experience program. Students will work 60 hours any time that is suitable for employer and student between Jan 4 and April 23, 2010 (with the exception of March 5th until April 4th for College productions).
Students must be supervised by an experienced mentor. Unfortunately they are not available to be self-directed crew. The object of the placement is for them to gain experience in an area of their interest in a professional setting while building their network.

These fourth term students have taken construction, stage management, scenic painting, props, audio, hand and CAD drafting (Vectorworks), and lighting. They have also participated in at least 3 college productions including as a crew chief. They have achieved success in the classroom and shown strong work ethic on our productions.

We ask employers to write a short job posting including a description of the job, approximate dates and hours, name of company and supervisor, and contact information (form available). Students will then apply for jobs that match their interests and locations that are convenient for them. At the end of the work experience, employers will be asked to evaluate the students using forms available on our website.

The students will be unpaid volunteers but would be appreciative of an honorarium to help cover transport and meals.

If you would like to submit a posting or need more information please Coordinator Ross Nichol at 604-527-5280 or nicholrs@douglas.bc.ca .
