Office Moves to Nanaimo!!!
Theatre BC’s provincial office has moved to Nanaimo. Executive Director, Robb Mowbray is pleased to be set up at our new location at 150 Commercial Street, right across the street from the new Port Theatre (site of MAINSTAGE ‘99) in downtown Nanaimo. Theatre BC joins TheatreOne, the Nanaimo Art Gallery and the Vancouver Island Symphony as co-tenants in the former Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce building. Theatre BC would like to thank CIBC for generously supporting the Arts by providing the use of this building. Theatre BC’s new mailing address is PO Box 2031, Nanaimo, BC, V9R 6X6. Phone: 250-714-0203 Fax: 250-714-0213. Please update your records.

1st Theatre BC-hosted Member Club Site Launched!

On Thursday, January 27th, Doug Xenis of Summerland Singers & Players (OKZ) posted his Club’s new website to the Theatre BC domain, marking the launch of the first member Club site to be hosted directly by Theatre BC on our new ‘dedicated server‘. To view Summerland’s new web home, direct your browser to www.TheatreBC.org/ssp. Summerland Singers & Players are also the hosts for this Spring’s Okanagan Zone Festival, May 19-28.

Several other Clubs have expressed interest in setting up a website on Theatre BC Server, so watch for more launches in the near future, including:

www.shakespearekelowna.org’.

MBNA Canada to join us at NPF and MAINSTAGE

Renee Carter, Sales Rep for MBNA Canada Bank Ltd. has indicated that her company would like to attend both the New Play Festival and MAINSTAGE 2000 to provide information on our Theatre BC affinity MasterCard program and to learn more about Theatre BC and our events.

This program is providing Theatre BC with an ongoing source of royalty revenue as more and more Members apply for and make purchases with their Theatre BC MasterCards. See the form on page 19.

BC Festival of the Arts Co-sponsor’s Workshops
The BC Festival of the Arts ’NextStage’ theatre section is sharing the cost of Instructor fees and travel for up to four Regional Workshops with Theatre BC this spring, the first of which, took place in Cranbrook, January 14-16. Workshop Instructors for the selected sessions will recommend two to three participants to be delegates to the BC Festival of the Arts ‘NextStage’ theatre ensembles in Nelson, during the last week of May. Rod Osiowy, Coordinator for the Cranbrook ‘Directing’ Workshop, was named the first delegate to ‘NextStage’ to be confirmed through this new partnership program. Upcoming Regional Workshops in this program include a Regional Workshop/Instructor Tour of the Central Interior Zone, (Judy Norton, Instructor), and a playwriting workshop at the New Play Festival, (Sally Clark, Instructor). For more information, call the Theatre BC office at 250-714-0203.

For information on ‘NextStage’, see the flyer insert in this newsletter. Check out the BC Festival of the Arts site at www.bcfestivalofthearts.bc.ca

3-year option on Memberships catching on

Members are taking advantage of the new 3-year option on Club Card memberships and saving $5 plus GST on fees plus no need to worry about renewal for three years. The number of 3-year applications has started to overtake the 1-year applications in recent weeks. In the long run, this should ease some of the workload on the office staff, as the number of memberships to process each season should decrease.

A laminated cardboard version of the Club Card will be issued for 1-year memberships and the current plastic credit card-type Club Card will be issued for 3-year memberships.

TBC Office Welcomes New Staff Members

Theatre BC’s new office in Nanaimo also has new staff with the approval of a new Job Creation Project. Lisa Desprez, who spent some time on the MAINSTAGE ‘99 Project, has returned to the office to help with the spring Zone Festival preparation. She is joined by Nick Longo. Nick hopes to enhance his administrative, website and desktop publishing skills. He is also a professional actor. We welcome Lisa and Nick to Theatre BC.

Send Bulletin entries to info@theatrebc.org or submit online at www.TheatreBC.org
