Genesis Theatre, Delta, July 1-8

M2000sm.gif (5340 bytes)
MAINSTAGE 2000 is fast approaching. Members of Sidekick Players Club are busy planning your annual "theatrical vacation", so please mark your calendars for July 1-8 in Delta.

Is your Club planning to enter Zone Festival? Are you planning to attend M2000 in Delta? If you are, you should think about booking accommodation very soon. As the Festival begins on July 1 weekend, rooms may not be available if you wait too long.

If you are planning on camping this year, the nearest campground to the MAINSTAGE 2000 venue is "parkcanada" in Tsawwassen. It is located right on Highway 17 just before the Victoria ferry terminal. The campground features showers, laundromat, rec lounge, playground, heated pool, propane refills and convenience store. It also has a large grass tent site. This camp fills up very quickly each summer, so you should call now. The contact information is:

This year, all MAINSTAGE activities will take place at one facility, Delta Secondary School and the attached Genesis Theatre. This will take away the worry of transportation between venues for the various activities. And it’s all very conveniently located next to sunny Ladner’s main shopping street.

We can also confirm that this year’s Mainstage Adjudicator will be David Ross, Artistic Producer for Western Canada Theatre in Kamloops. David is well-known to Theatre BC members for his past work as Workshop Plays Director at more than one previous MAINSTAGE Festival. David has also served as a Zone Festival Adjudicator. The fact that he has held the position of Artistic Producer with the very successful and highly respected Western Canada Theatre for sixteen years, is testament to David’s skills as a theatre professional. We expect a very full week on the Mainstage, as all eleven Zones have regional festivals scheduled this spring. We look forward to David’s entertaining and educational insight on each production as he offers up some constructive criticism during the Public Adjudication from the stage following each evening (and, potentially, matinée) performance and the more in-depth and always popular "Coffee Critique" each following morning.

For this year, the directing duties for the Workshop Plays at MAINSTAGE 2000 will be shared by Andrew McIlroy and Robert Metcalfe, each taking on one production. This format will allow those interested in the ‘Directing Lab’ workshop attached to the Workshop Plays, to have the opportunity to choose both sessions and work with two different professional directors. Andrew is always popular and highly requested as a Workshop Instructor, Tour Consultant and Guest Director. Robert is a very popular Adjudicator and Workshop Instructor. He is director for the current touring production of the world-famous "The Number 14" by Vancouver’s Axis Theatre.

Scene Development Directors and Special Course (Workshops) Instructors are being lined up at this time. Look for complete details in the next issue of the Theatre BC NEWS, the MAINSTAGE Registration Issue, due out at the beginning of April.
See you in sunny Delta in July!
