NEW!! Theatre BC
Building Acquisition Fund:
We are at a crossroads in our financial well being. In a competitive funding world
where traditional resources are shrinking, we cannot sustain continued growth in activity,
growth in support for activity, particularly at the Zone level, and growth in staff to
meet the demands of the expanding workload . But we do see a way out of the financial
woods...
The most reliable source for new and sustainable dollars may be through the acquisition of
our own building with which we can generate earned revenues from rentals, workshops and
performances. Like our member clubs that enjoy the financial freedom that owning their own
building brings, Theatre BC too can benefit from an investment in real estate.
The ideal property would be used to house Theatre BCs provincial office, paying into
our own investment rather than renting. It would also have space to rent for rehearsals,
workshops or meetings, as well as community theatre and dance performances. We do have a
potential property in mind that meets the criteria. Board and Staff are progressing
carefully in researching this possibility, but we do need to take some steps to prepare
for such a venture. This includes the need to develop a Building Acquisition Fund to
provide us with the cash to make the necessary downpayment and cover closing costs. It is
estimated, in terms of the property we have been considering, that we will need up to
$75,000 (based on a $250,000 maximum cash purchase). This sounds like a huge expectation,
but, when looking at acquiring a building that could provide us with ongoing revenues and
a long-term positive investment, this is attainable. We already have donations &
pledges totaling over $6,000 towards such a fund.
Such a property could generate revenues of at least several thousand dollars per year. It
is intended that a major portion of surplus revenues would go into a Travel &
Education Fund that could be used to fund Regional Workshops and travel subsidies to
Zone and Mainstage Festivals around the province, provding a benefit to all members.
Please consider making a contribution to the Building Acquistion Fund. Founding
donors and sponsors will be recognized permanently in the building and, of course,
donations to Theatre BC are eligible for a Tax Receipt.

SPONSORSHIP
MAINSTAGE Sponsorship:
Each MAINSTAGE festival provides numerous vital sponsorship opportunities, which
cover many of the major costs of the festival, including the Thespian Award statuettes,
volunteer recognition, program sponsors, Coffee Critiques, etc.
These packages range from large corporate
sponsorships (up to $10,000) to smaller individual or private sponsorships (starting from
$50). Each level provides the festival with vital funds to help make MAINSTAGE become
a successful and truly memorable experience for participants, audience members and
the local communities hosting them.
The rewards for MAINSTAGE sponsorship are
many: included with many sponsorship packages are free performance and event
tickets, media and program recognition (ie: inclusion of your logo/name on event materials
and the Theatre BC website, program advertising, public recognition at performances and
other MAINSTAGE events). You not only receive the gratitude of audience and participants,
but also the widespread prominence and public recognition your generosity deserves.
For a complete list of current sponsorship
packages, contact the Mainstage office at: m2006@theatrebc.org or the Theatre BC
office (see below)
Zone Festivals:
Sponsors are also needed at the Zone
Festival level in each of our ten zones, in much the same way as for
the MAINSTAGE Festival. This is a chance to support your local theatre community and zone.
Contact the Theatre BC office for details.
Canadian National Playwriting Competition & New Play Festival:
The annual Canadian National Playwriting
Competition is the biggest of its kind in the country, attracting well over 100
entries from all over Canada. What better way to support the development of new Canadian
plays and playwrights than by sponsoring one of three major cash awards or becoming an
event sponsor.
The competition is followed -up with the New Play Festival weekend in Kamloops
each spring. Winners and Finalists join professional dramaturges and actor/reader
participants to workshop the plays. After the re-working sessions, Finalist plays are
given a public reading and the three winning plays are given a staged public reading, all
with the help of the registered actors/readers.
Become an event sponsor to help Canadian playwrights take their plays from 'page to
stage'.
